A tribute to the “King of the Hammond Organ”
Vince Abbracciante on Hammond organ, with his “Trio do Vavà,” presents a musical project dedicated to the great Brazilian master Walter Wanderley, a true pioneer of Brazilian music
A native of Recife, Wanderley became an internationally renowned artist in the 1960s thanks to his version of “Summer Samba,” which reached #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earned him a platinum record for the album “Rain Forest.” His collaboration with famed singer Astrud Gilberto on the album “A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness” (Verve Records) definitively established him as a worldwide star.
The all-Apulian trio traces the Maestro’s career through a careful selection of songs from his recordings, re-proposing some of his hits with the typical Hammond organ sound accompanied by the vibrant Brazilian rhythms of bajao, bossa nova and samba, a musical journey through the sounds of Brazil.
In the repertoire is “Tema do Vavá,” a rare composition by Wanderley himself.
