Piero Piccioni was one of the most important composers of soundtracks for Italian cinema, capable of moving between different musical genres, with a predilection for jazz. His music accompanies the images of directors of the caliber of Antonioni, Rosi, Monicelli, Sordi, Bertolucci and many others, creating unforgettable atmospheres and evocative melodies.
To celebrate his musical genius, three talented musicians, with a shared passion for cinema, decided to reinterpret some of his most significant compositions, arranging them in a modern/jazz key creating an engaging concert that enhances the versatility and originality of the great Maestro’s compositions, revealing the musicians’ performing skills.
Vince Abbracciante, considered “the rising star of the accordion in Italy” (Italian Jazz Dictionary 2014), is leader of the trio, which is completed by the excellent rhythm section formed by Nicola Di Camillo, on double bass, and Giovanni Angelini, on drums.
Special guest is trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso, recognized as one of the greatest virtuosos of his instrument in Italy as well as outside the borders, with a career full of original projects and collaborations with renowned artists. His trumpet skillfully enhances the harmonies and nuances of Piccioni’s music, creating an intense and vibrant dialogue with Abbracciante’s accordion.
The concert is thus a musical journey into Italian pop culture, tracing the stages of Piero Piccioni’s career through his most significant works, passing by films such as Fumo di Londra, La decima vittima, Amore mio aiutami, Bello onesto emigrato in Australia, C’era una volta, Un italiano in America and many others, in the unique and exciting atmosphere that the marriage between Music and Cinema can create, thanks to truly timeless melodies and images.
